Jason A. Payne is a 2001 graduate of Washington State University’s Edward R. Murrow School of Communication. He is a member of the Motion Picture Editor’s Guild and was Post Production Supervisor for all 68 episodes of the Syfy Original Series, “Z Nation,” where he also edited 12 episodes over five seasons.
After graduating with a BA in Communications (Broadcast Production), and minor in Theater Arts, Jason started working for North by Northwest Productions in Spokane, WA. He began as a production assistant on the feature film "Whacked!" starring Carmen Electra, and quickly worked his way up to commercial editor.
With the growing popularity of DVD's in the early 2000's, Jason began producing and editing "making of" documentaries for NXNW's feature films which led to editing and producing the hour-long documentary "Making The Passion of the Christ," that aired nationally on PAX television in 2004.
Since 2005, Jason has edited ten feature films including “The Cutter," starring Chuck Norris; “The Hit List,” starring Cuba Gooding Jr., and the suspense thriller "The River Murders,” starring Ray Liotta, Christian Slater and Ving Rhames. He also recently performed additional editing duties on "Hangman" starring Al Pacino.
Between editing movies and TV, Jason has worked as the Post Production Supervisor of over 20 feature films, including “John Carpenter’s, The Ward," the John Travolta thriller “I Am Wrath, “Nicholas Cage's, "Vengeance: A Love Story,” and “At Middleton,” starring Andy Garcia and Vera Farmiga. He has also edited performance screens backgrounds for several popular television productions and award shows such as the ACM Awards and MDA Telethon for acts including Garth Brooks, George Straight Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley and Carole King.
Jason’s most recent projects include working as a Visual Effects Coordinator and VFX Artist for season two of the Netflix Original Series “Black Summer,” and editing multiple episodes of two new Sony Affirm Original Series’, “Going Home,” starring Cynthia Geary and Tom Skerritt, and “Live + Local,” starring Dave Coulier and Emily Pendergast.
Jason now lives in Morgantown, West Virginia with his wife MaryBeth, two sons, three cats and dog.
